Alo Wanth

He says, “Music is life.” Passionate about music since his childhood, he started playing guitar at the age of just eight. Alo Wanth, singer-songwriter-composer, hails from the Northeast India, Nagaland. Trained in contemporary music from CFNI Dallas, Texas, US, he has three albums to his credit and performed in various part of the globe. In an exclusive interview with YSN, Alo Wanth lets his heart out:

1. Who is Alo Wanth?

I am a singer, song writer and composer from Nagaland. Released three Albums, “Beautiful”, ”Life” and “Discover me”.

2. How did you become a singer?

It was in built in me by my creator and I am grateful for this gift. My parents were both musician so you may say it runs in the blood.

3. What inspiration drew you to music?

Nature, real people, Word of God (Bible) always inspired me to sing and write music.

4. How were you in childhood, school and college?

I was mischievous and naughty but I always had a dream and determination to do something worthwhile in my life.

5. Music apart, what interests you?

Hanging out with friends, hiking, traveling, meeting new people, watching movies and last but not the least, a long drive.

6. How hard is it to become a singer from northeast India?

A very good question, take your own CDs to the store, promote yourself, manage yourself, sell your own show tickets and market yourself and at the end your songs are leaked out via bluetooth. So you can see, it’s very hard for a singer to grow as an artist in Northeast. But I am waiting for that day when the world will see how musically talented are people from Northeast. The ‘divine connection, Alobo Naga and shilling chamber choir’ are perfect examples.

7. What do you have to say about the recent exodus and attack of NE from various mainstream states in India?

Yes, there were some real stories of attacks but exaggeration and rumours also created the chaos. However, Northeast people do face challenges living in cities. The recent issue is not communal but it is a fight against illegal immigrant. And it did not happen in Nagaland but in Assam.

8. Please give us an insight into your concert in Delhi?

Hi-Pitch Productions is organising the concert “Alo Wanth on Stage” in Delhi. Mr. Kagui, a musician himself along with his friends (Maker Kashung, Elvis Khevito Lee and Nethaji Rajendran) founded Hi-Pitch Productions with a vision to provide platform for the new talents in Northeast. This concert will be their first step towards achieving their goal and a way to also tell people about how northeast people are peace loving. So this concert is for upholding harmony and promoting unity amidst troubled diversity.

As for me, I have always wanted to connect to different people in the country and other places through music and spread goodwill. In many of my songs I have talked about justice, peace and how we need to strive for a better world. This concert has brought me closer to my dream and I definitely look forward to connect with many people in Delhi. The concert is on 1st of September, 6:45pm, Shah Auditorium, Civil Lines, Delhi.
