at Manipur and New Delhi. He is the Founder and Managing Trustee of North East
Centre for Environmental Education and Research (NECEER), Imphal. At a very
young age during his college days, he founded a youth based organization named
Helping Hands Group (HHG), Imphal with the help of his friends. Helping Hands
Group is an organization dedicated to the academic welfare of the youths of
Manipur through motivation sessions, seminars and competitions. KhuraijamJibankumar
Singh (KJS) share some of his experiences in a tete-a-tete
with YSN.
KJS: I am a person who
loves to be with nature and who works to conserve it.
YSN: How did you become
environmentalist cum activist ?
KJS: Seeing the fast
deteriorating environmental health of the state and lack of proper actions from
all quarters to restore it, I felt the need to take up the task.
YSN: How were you in childhood,
school and college days ?
KJS: Since my childhood,
I always had a passion of living in a green environment among beautiful flowers
and wildlife. During school days, I was fond of exploring the flora and fauna
of the Imphal Valley which later on inspired me to study the biodiversity of
the surrounding environment in detail.
YSN: How hard is to be
environmentalist cum activist ?
KJS: It has always been a
challenging job to be in the frontline. I have initiated several programmes to
involve youths in environmental education and campaigns such as Worldwide Save
Loktak Lake Campaign, Nationwide Save Sangai Campaign and Enviro Youth Summit
of Manipur. Involvement of youths in creating awareness about issues such as
saving fragile ecosystems like the Loktak Lake and sacred groves, endangered
species like Manipur Brow antlered deer locally known as Sangai is my primary
concern. However, I don’t find it strenuous since I am deeply passionate in
working for a greener and healthier environment.
YSN: Success mantra
KJS: Follow your passions
and believe in yourself.
