Tête-à-tête with Juan Villegas

Lets hear it from the most happening Radio jockey rocking on Rock Sin Banderas in Toronto, Canada.  He has a life to share, a vision like most of us and achievements to note for.

YSN: Who is Juan Villegas ?

Juan: Born and raised in the City of the eternal spring Medellin, Colombia. Growing up in this small paradise gives you a different perspective of life, the fact of being surrounded by mountains makes you feel that there's giants around you. Creativity has always surrounded me, going to school for the advertising program opened my mind, made me realize that giants are just the collective of great minds working in one common idea. I left Colombia to The United States, and got to see the other side of giants, the side where giants compete against each other, and realize that at the end all we are going to have is a bunch of giants on the ground, so I moved to Canada, where I found again that same feeling of unity that makes real giants, and that's what I want, get creative people together to create a landslide of talent and creativity.

YSN: How did you become the RJ as the radio station?

Juan: After going on a backpacking trip through South america with my friend Cristian Gomez, I realized that no matter where you're from or what belief you follow, MUSIC IS THE CONNECTOR. Our Bohemian conversations about music made me realize that sharing a band or a song is sharing a feeling, is making a memorable moment, is creating a story and I'm the kind of person who loves creating and listening to good stories about music; that's where the idea of having a space in radio where we could share our bohemian conversations with everybody started; Fortunately I knew Rockdrigo and Merlina, the couple behind www.radiorocksinbanderas.com an independent internet radio station that has as motto "NO FLAGS" it was like the universe had said, "You want this, here it is what else are you looking for" and that's where the whole idea of "5 e Volumen" came to life, a show that would create the necessity of looking for new music with "la vuelta en 5" five songs with a common theme, "Cultura Rock" 5 songs that stand out from regular music, music made with conscience and "El ANALisis" the part of the show where we try to explain what went wrong with some of the "crazy" music we find everyday on the internet. Later on with the support of Rockdrigo we started doing "Bacilando en la Cabina" a space for local artists to show what they have by coming to have a bohemian night with live jam in the cabin of www.radiorocksinbanderas.com one of the most satisfying experiences a person who loves music could get, being able to know, hear and talk to all these talented people is just amazing.

YSN: How were you in childhood, school and college days ?

Juan: I guess you could say that I haven't change much since my childhood, school and college days, I've always been the guy that likes to talk to people, hear their stories and most of all loves music and any kind of art expression that is made with conscience and love, always looking for something that makes me smile, and if it makes me smile why not share it with everybody, when you smile you recharge your soul.

YSN: How hard is to be a active RJ?

Juan: Is not hard at all, if what you're doing, you're doing it because you're passionate about it, finding new music for me is a thrill and being able to share it with everybody is a blessing.

YSN: Success mantra?

Juan: Your success is directly connected to the feeling, passion and vibration you put into any project you get involved in. if you feel that the road to take has a heart, follow it and commit to it, otherwise is just another idea.

YSN: You message towards youth?

Juan: In these times of global exposure, take as much as you can to create your own ideas, mix sounds, flavours, cultures. Be true to your own ideas, no matter what people say, if your message is honest and truthful people who matter will understand it and probably follow it.
