Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Review

For us who grew up in the late 1980s or early 1990s, there is a good chance that Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is a part of our childhood. It first came out in Mirage Comics which eventually grew into a headliner; credit goes to the cartoon series and movies that came out. TMNT once again projected the movie version early this that received mixed reviews at best, but I had fun watching it.

With Ninja Turtles in mind, probably you must be thinking the same old cute looking super power overgrown turtles with Ninjutsu skills. However this movie portrayed a much realer, matured look (though they are still teenagers) with well characterized fonts for all four of the Ninja Turtles: Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael, and Michaelangelo. Not to mention, master Splinter was also looking realistic (amazing details on graphics in this movie) however Shredder was on top of the game. They has actually shown a very mysterious unmasked Shredder who further wore a robo-tonic costume that enhanced his power and martial art skills.

The story starts with April O’Neil (Megan Fox) trying to find real story as a journalist on the Foot Clan attacks and robbery that has been taking place in the city, besides covering stories on people working out in the street. During this process, she mysteriously stubbles upon one of the Foot Clan operations wherein she finds out that there is someone who is fighting these evil doers and attempting to stop the mishaps. She tries to report the same on Channel 6 (where she works) however nobody believes her. Shredder in the meantime, plans an attack in the city to find out who is stopping their operations in the city. In the incident, April meets the Ninja Turtles. She later finds out that the Turtles were a part of the experiment which her father had performed in a lab to create a mutant and adds on to let the world know of the truth. However, she was dismissed from her work thinking that she was mentally disturbed as she was taking the Foot Clan story too seriously.

She approaches Eric Sacks, owner of Sacks industries, who was also a partner to her father’s experiment but he turned out to be an associate of Shredder. Master Splinter in the same time plans to let April know of the truth and commands the turtles to bring her. Shredder plans for an attack in the sewer, where the turtles reside. The TMNT successfully brings April and she was explained by Splinter on the story of how the TMNT came into being and their existence. During this time, they were attacked by Shredder and the Foot Clan to capture the turtles for their blood (which was the antidote to the disease that was to be caused by a release of a dangerous gas.) In the fight, Splinter lost and 3 of the turtles were captured however Raphael was assumed dead.

Raphael, along with April, quest for the rescue and frees the turtles. The TMNT fights against Shredder in a final battle wherein they could win but with great difficulty.

“The movie had amazing graphics and sounds though the start was a little slow” quoted Romit. Ginger mentioned that the movie was predictable but the new TMNT look was definitely more real and the action sequence was something that kept her eyes from blinking. Megumi said “Definitely a worth watch, a little boring in the beginning, difficult to connect but the movie did a good job in bringing about edge to the action.”
