Vicky Sharma

Having worked as a 3-D visual effects compositor in several superhit Hollywood and Bollywood movies like ‘Transformers’, Clash of Titans’, ‘Harry Potter series’ and ‘Ra.One’, young talent from Manipur - Vicky Sharma, at the age of 25,  is all geared up to bring his expertise in Manipuri film making.  In a candid interview to YSN, Vicky shares few moments:

YSN: Who is Vicky Sharma?

Vicky: I am the only son of my family hailing from Manipur. I recently left Prime Focus Studio based in Mumbai where I worked as Trainer and Team Leader. Right now, I am working on a film project that will go on the floor in November in Manipur, and currently involve in the activities of Manipur Photography Club (MPC).

YSN: How did you become a 3-D visual effects compositor?

Vicky: While I was at my institute FRAMEBOXX Animation and Visual Effects, Delhi, my hard work drew attention of some of the senior members. So they sent me for an interview in Mumbai which happened to be my first interview. Luckily, my hard work and interest at work impressed the interviewer. And the rest is history.

YSN: What inspiration drew you to your profession?

Vicky: While watching films during my childhood days, I was always fascinated by the visual effects in the films. I used to wonder how they do it.  So the visual effect used in the films inspired me to this profession.

YSN: How were you in childhood, school and college?

Vicky: Being the only son of my parents, I was pampered and was given the liberty to express my creativity. During school days in Manipur at Manipur Public School, I was an average student and even had to give compartmental exams in the tenth standard. However, my college days were all about exploring my hidden talents.

YSN: How many films have you worked on till date? Which one is the closest to your heart?

Vicky: I have worked in fifteen Hollywood and one Bollywood flicks till date. Since all the projects are result of my hard work, I would not like to give precedence of one project over another.

However, I enjoyed working on ‘Wrath of Titan’ as it was a challenge since it being my first project as a Trainer.

YSN: Compositing visual effect and filmmaking apart, what interests you?

Vicky: Photography is my other passion.

YSN: How was your stint at Prime Focus Studio?

Vicky: About one hundred and thirty artists worked under me. It was quite an experience to be a leader of so many people and that made me a more responsible person in life.

YSN: What do you have to say about the recent exodus of North-Easterns from various mainstream states in India?

Vicky: It was quite an unfortunate incident. Media should be sensitive while reporting such incidents.

YSN: What hurdles do you see in terms of visual effects and 3-D in Indian film industry in general and Manipuri film industry in particular?

Vicky: Visual effect has come of age in India. Film makers are not afraid to use technology available to them. While in Manipur, the films are made in low budget and hence cannot afford the new technology.

YSN: Please give us an insight into your plans in Manipur film industry?

Vicky: Well, I can’t disclose about my project right now. But it will be a new thing in Manipur. And I think people will love it.

YSN: Success mantra

Vicky: Patience, hard work, honesty and just be yourself.

YSN: Through YSN, any message to youth?

Vicky: Youth should not confine themselves to only medical and engineering as a career option and parents should equally encourage their children to pursue their own field of interest.
