Team Anna to enter into politics, disappoints public

Friday, 03 August 2012 17:15

So, all these hypes of a historic public movement, fast-unto-death, civil body power and et al were just a mere show to win public’s confidence for their want to form a political party. Yes, it’s official now. Team Anna will foray into politics in 2014.
In what seems to be an excuse of government ignoring them completely, Team Anna on Thursday announced that it will end the fast and prepare themselves to enter into politics. Leaving with no other option as well as falling health of its core members like Arvind Kejriwal have led to Team Anna asking the public gathered at Jantar Mantar on its future course of action and whether entering themselves into politics will solve the corruption menace in the country. It was very evident that Team Anna now wants to enter the political fraternity as soon as possible but specifically in 2014 Lok Sabha Elections.
Saying that Team Anna will serve as an alternative to the existing political parties, its leader Anna Hazare tried to convince the public saying: "There is nothing wrong with forming a party. We need to provide an alternative to the people.”
This decision of Anna Hazare only heightens the speculations of Team Anna is backed by the BJP. It became more evident when the BJP said that it welcomes the decision of Anna Hazare forming a political party.
Although the decision was welcome by many, yet it didn’t go down well with the majority of masses who have been actively involved in the Movement.  “We wanted a civil revolution not another political party which will too function like the other parasitical parties in the country. I never thought that this pious movement will end into forming a party. Very unhappy I am,” said Sameer Singh, an active participant of the Anna Hazare movement.
Disappointed with Anna Hazare’s complete U-turn, Swati Mehra, another supporter of the movement, said: “I respect Anna ji a lot but his decision to join politics it’s completely no no to me. His image is clean. Entering into the dirty politics will only tarnish his image. I hope he takes back his words.”
However, there are supporters who second the idea of Team Anna. “It’s a great decision. At least, it will end the lack of alternative in the Indian politics,” said Tina Sharma, an ardent supporter of India Against Corruption and Anna.
Exactly, by supporting Anna’s decision to form a political party, young supporters like Tina surely want to end the TINA (There is no alternative) factor in the Indian politics. However, what about the majority of them who are highly disappointed with their leaders’ decision?
Can Team Anna serve as an alternative in the Indian politics? Well, the forthcoming Lok Sabha Elections in 2014 could only reveal that. Till then, let’s wait and watch.
