Indian students fear deportation from UK

Friday, 31 August 2012 12:07

Indian students pursuing their higher education in London Metropolitan University, UK are afraid of deportation from the country as the varsity loses licence.
Established in the year 2002, the London Metropolitan University (LMU) has various campuses in the city of London and in the London Borough of Islington. A probe carried out by Britain’s immigration authorities has exposed “serious systemic failures”. It was reported that a quarter of overseas students sampled at London Metropolitan University did not have permission to stay in the country while a “significant proportion” did not have a good standard of English.
The University has over 2000 foreign students including Indians. The Indians students are left stranded in the big city due to the cancellation the university’s licence. They are given an ultimatum to enrol in another university within 60 days if they want to continue their studies or else these students would be deported to their home country. However, international students belonging to European Nations (EU) and students of UK can still pursue their studies at the university itself.
Shocked at the recent development, an Indian student studying at  LMU, Chandini said, “I can’t believe this! I have spent such a huge amount just in getting admission. Now, if I don’t find another university in 60 days, I would be deported. What should I do?”
The concerned authorities are lending out helping hands to the affected students in finding another University in UK. The University has set up a Help Centre to support and advise students. The number is +44 (0) 20 7133 4141.
