Prime Minister Narendra Modi
on Sunday grace the closing ceremony of Manipur's largest tourism
festival-Sangai Festival as the chief guest of the event.
The PM applauded the spirit of
Manipuris in every field. He also promised to develop Manipur in every possible
way. Specially, he showed the potential of youth employment in various sectors. He paid emphasis to sports
development with the establishment of sports university. He talked about
improving connectivity, employment, youth empowerment and eradication of drug
abuse among others. Following is the excerpt of what he quipped at the event:
When requested by the Chief Minister Okram
Ibobi Singh to help in the development of Manipur in terms of connectivity,
employment, establishment of proper healthcare system; PM Modi replied: "
There are so many requests and complaints made by the CM, well, I feel truly
obliged that this CM has trust in me and my government, so I will definitely
love to do everything he has requested for."
Further the PM said,
"Manipur is known for sports and has given birth to a beautiful game
called Polo, I would love the whole world to know the beauty of Polo and it can
only be done through proper tourism."
Talking about the
connectivity, he said, "If there is a proper connectivity, no one can stop
for Manipur to be a developed state." He paid more emphasis to tourism
when he said, "If tourism is boomed in this state, everyone will be
employed. Starting in from jobs of labour, tea vending, cleaning, technology,
clothing, connectivity, employment, establishment of proper healthcare system
and what not all."
"Manipur has the power to
be on the map of world as Manipuris' DNA is filled with sports. That's why a
Sports University is coming up in this part of the country. Well, sports do not
only mean games but it will boom the economy of Manipur with youth being
employed in various sectors like technology, textile, sportswear, and the likes
of," quipped PM Modi.
PM Narendra Modi further
asserted, "If the propsed Sports University comes up in Manipur, Manipuri
youngsters need not go outside to seek jobs. I will live up to all the requests
made by the CM. I want Manipur not to shine only in the field of sports but
also in terms of overall development. Last and important thing I want to assert
and appeal to the youth is that to stop using drugs as it leads to destruction
of not only the victim but also the whole family. I know it is not that easy to
withdraw it immediately, but, if one has a strong will to not use it, one can
leave it!"
As a conclusion of his speech,
Prime Minister Naredra Modi thank each and everyone for inviting him to attend
Manipur Sangai Festival and said that he will come back to see a developed
Manipur next time.
