Review: Veera – Innocence among complexities of life
By Mamta
Star Plus’s new show Veera started off as 8-year-old child Ranvijay (Bhavesh Balchandani) yearns for a sister. The story is set in a village of Punjab. Sampooran Singh (Sudhanshu Pandey), sarpanch of the village is happily married to Ratan (Sneha Wagh). In an earlier episode, we saw how Sampooran and Ratan are leading a happy married life. But Sampooran has a secret. Ratan’s unflinching faith in her husband makes him feel guilty of hiding the secret. Her faith finally breaks when Amrita lands on her door-step with a baby and she overhears Sampooran’s conversation with her. Finally he admits that he had a relationship with her and he is the father of the child. On the one hand, a relationship breaks as the trust is broken and on the other a relationship sees a new dawn.
The psychology of small kids is very well-written and enacted on-screen by the child artist Bhavesh. Whereas Ratan mourns her husband’s betrayal, Ranvijay is happy to get a sister. Amrita dies after handing over the child to Sampooran but Ranvijay is too young to understand the intricacies of life and death. So when Sampooran was making preparations for Amrita’s funeral, Ranvijay couldn’t understand and asks innocent questions. He was scared that they might have to return the child and he might lose his sister. But when he gets a confirmation from his father that they won’t have to return the child, he starts dancing with joy.
In a single shot, we could see Sampooran carrying Amrita in his arms for her funeral and Ranvijay carrying Amrita’s daughter and leading the way. On the one hand, everyone was despising Sampooran for committing adultery and on the other hand, Ranvijay was taking care of his sister.
Ranvijay has already started bonding with his sister and become protective about her. When everyone in the household refused to take care of the child he takes the initiative. He carefully listens to the other kids how to take care of a child. When his friend tries to pick up the child and it starts crying he asks him to stay away.
So Ranvijay’s journey of becoming “anokhi maa” has already started as the tagline of the show says. The show is well-written and directed with the power-packed performances of Sudhanshu Pandey, Sneha Wagh and Bhavesh.

Be single, be a good cook
Written by Christopher Watham
“The most dangerous food to eat is a wedding cake”-Anonymous
Well, the above clearly describes the horror of getting hitched and all those problems rallying along with it. But what if you want to eat this cake and all those goodies and at the same time being single. The answer is you have to learn cooking.
It's not being against having a relationship or getting married but want to make the single life a better and more colourful.
Single life is indeed the best time to do what your heart wants and desires. All those TV and movie fictionalizes love story that none exist in reality. The real life is only for common people and they hardly can changed other people's life.
Being single doesn’t mean uncool, ugly or selfish. It means how strong and confident enough to handle those problems and work alone. It is the best time to discover yourself, give best time in your life and treat yourself like a king/queen.
But often this doesn’t happen as single life crumple with those peer, parent's pressure and the big problem is lack of good home food.
The theory to stay happy in single life is learning to cook well and gulping down all gastronomic delicacies. For those singles who do not know how to cook, get this as new hobby, bet, it will help you more than anything.
And soon at the end of every day, nothing will beat the delicious meals, beer and watching “Two and a Half Men” !
Cut denims, beat the heat
Soaring temperature killing you? But you still wanna sport a chic style? Well, the solution is- take out those old long denims of yours and scissors to cut it short!
To pair with the chopped denims, a classic white tee is a perfect choice. Doesn't matter if you going out for a lunch with friends or evening coffee with buddies, denim shorts is just a chic and in.
If you aren't a tee girl, you always have a choice to sport the look with your favourite long shirt over a ganji. However, make it a point to tie a knot on your waistline to up the hot quotient.
A flip-flop slipper would make the look as summery as the summer can be. Floral shirts or tee and oversized shades could add the girly factor. Carrying a colourful umbrella would surely help you in beating the heat apart from saving you from getting wet from unexpected showers.

Fashion Forward Men

Well, nowadays the term “fashion” is no longer the sole-domain of women, it has extended itself into the world of men as well.
And this is what the concept of having a Men’s Fashion Week is all about. Men set the ramp on fire by walking down the aisle; it
is evenly refreshing from the monotony of fashion shows with just focus on the female models.
Such a platform not only results in setting a more stylish clothing line for men but at the same time
also releases a sense of uniqueness. Styling is a very important aspect of dressing-up, be it a man or a
woman and therefore a separate show displaying the men’s-only collection helps in setting the newer trend in
apparels as well in accessories especially designed for men.
Apart from giving men a little space in the women-dominated industry of fashion, it also is a huge platform for
young designers to showcase their talent amidst a number of prospective buyers and in maintaining a list of various other high-end clienteles for themselves.

Chutta aur Doley Choley
Many youngsters today are in the trend of making a so-called “sexy” body to impress and attract the opposite sex and of course, their friends. Some do it by passion and would admire themselves, just posing in front of the mirror. The hard work they put in the gym surely shows, if exercises are done correctly and with proper diet. A ‘hot looking’ guy would much appreciate a comment like “Kya Body hai yaar?” and move on to brag about his physic with the sleeve rolled up and a bicep curl. All is well until he turns around and ask one of his friends, “Yaar, lighter hai kya?” He pulls a packet out and tabs the chutta with so much style and confidence. As he walks up to the chai stall, he explains how he maintains a killer body even if he smokes. With my assumptions, he might be into steroids or maybe not. After all, there are millions of body building supplements available in the market.
Smoking causes an irreparable damage to the respiratory system hence reducing the fitness level. Respiration is immediately affected by smoking. There is an increase in airway resistance hence there is a decrease in the quantity of oxygen absorbed by the blood. When compared with a non-smoker it is found that the heart beat of a smoker is 30% faster. The stimulating effect of nicotine results in faster heart beat. In order to maintain a balanced performance with a non-smoker counterpart your body spends more amount of energy. The increase in heart beat and blood pressure results in reduced blood flow from your blood vessels, hence reducing your performance. Many other facts on such prevails and needless to say the various illness caused by smoking.
John also works out in the gym and smokes. He said, "I am getting weak and my stamina's gone man..but i cant quit!" He said he cannot resist smoking and hence decided to use nicotine gums at first however he ended up lighting a cigarette every night. He then heard about ‘e-cig’. He says that the Electronic Cigarette is an alternative for those who are serious about hitting the gym. Also known as an e-cigarette or an e-cig, it is a battery powered device that simulates smoking by producing an inhaled vapor bearing the physical sensation, appearance, and often the flavor (with or without nicotine content) of inhaled tobacco smoke, without its odor or, ostensibly, its health risks. He explains that each fully charged e-cig can give upto 50 puffs, hence one can get puffs equivalent to 4-5 regular, tobacco fags. The rechargeable batteries can be easily charged with the help of chargers. These e-cigs require regular cleaning and can be considered a very good alternative to smoking, of course the best being calling it a quit!

Apple wins $1 bn patent case against Samsung
In a verdict which will impact Samsung’s sale negatively, US phone and computer giant Apple has won more than $1 billion against South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung. The biggest patent fight in decades has gone in the favour of Apple when a US court rejected Samsung's counterclaims against Apple on Friday.
It was claimed that Apple’s iPhone and iPad have been illegally copied by Samsung in the form of its Galaxy phones and notepads. The jury at San Jose in California ruled Samsung had infringed on a number of patents. The verdict will affect patents on several Samsung products such as its popular products Galaxy smartphones and its Galaxy 10 tablet.
However, Samsung won a similar dispute between the two companies in Seoul. A Seoul court has said that Samsung did not infringed on Apple but vice-versa.

Dabangg
Written by Ritika Handoo
Filmi Funda
The latest trend in B-town seems to be overdosing the public by making appearances on every possible medium of entertainment just to promote their upcoming flicks.
This is exactly what is happening right now, every time you switch on the television.
As soon as you surf the channel you find actors sitting as a judge in a singing reality show or on
a news channel giving interviews or even making a guest appearance in telly soap (remember Salman did that to promote Dabangg).
But why blame only Salman, this trend of film promotion was actually started
by Amir Khan ---the man who went a step ahead with his promotion-strategy.
He disguised as a rickshaw puller in the city of Banaras before “Three idiots” became super hit.
All this and what not, these stars are known for cutting the edge above the rest especially when it comes to their own baby (film).
Surely, we don’t mind if our own favorite star is accessible to us, so what if it’s only for a
publicity gimmick? After all, any publicity is good publicity, which works both for the film maker as well for the star in it.
We as audiences are at a receiving end having the final say to either sulk or fall prey to the promotional tactics of buying a ticket to
watch what was being thrown at us every time we switched on the idiot- box. Touché
