If knowledge is power then someday we will be God*
by Mudi on Wednesday, 29 August 2012
(* - here I mean GOD as somebody who can do almost anything not the Almighty GOD)
“Everything is achievable through technologies” Howard Stark from the movie Iron Man 2.
And it is knowledge that seeds the inventions and helps in inventions of various technologies. Knowledge always comes first before technologies and from various technologies and inventions more knowledge are provided.
Like, 600 years ago people thought that the earth was flat,
200 years later they found out that the earth is round and orbits round the sun along with other planets,
100 years ago we found out the Milky Way is not the only Galaxy in the universe but it is one of the billions,
And only about a year ago we concluded that there were only 8 planets on our solar system.
Imagine what we will know tomorrow, decades, century later.
All these are possible because of our knowledge which are increasing day by day without sign of stopping or slowing down. It is happening right before our own eyes. Back when I was a kid I remember when me and my cousins playing games on a computer which was B/W monitor and the game was stored into a 3.5 inches FDD which can store only 1.4MB of data, but today with that size of disk we can store more than 500 GB of data. Today I play games sizes of 10 GB or more and I only need is that much space on my Hard Disk Drive. All these thing are happening right in front of me in these past decade. Thing I never thought of, gadgets, clothes, cars, bikes, mobile phones etc were not in my grapes of my dreams as well as imaginations. But now they all are in front of me and using it. Thinking about these, I sometime wonders how stupid I was at my teenaged years. If these technologies advancement amused me so much than what about my parents and grand parents. At their time forget about mobiles, computers, gadgets, ipads etc they didn’t even had electricity. Now tell me how much it might surprises them. Its all because of theirs and ours knowledge and understanding and its increasing day by day. I wonder what my grand children might have. Maybe they might have their own spacecrsft or even planets or moons and alien friends. Maybe they might can create their own friends, toys like real man or even me clonned to be their friend and also might also have these new gadgets which can do and give anything like life or feelings or can create something or someone they loved maybe cats, dogs or even their parents, which might have the same nature as they were, or even time machine which they can travel through time.
You might think I’m crazy and stupid because of all these future crap things but just imagine who would believe at the time of the emperor Akbar, that thousands of steel, metals and people can fly in an airplane. If someone said like that at that time, he would be recognize as crazy, mentally-illed person and people would be laughing at him. But see who’s laughing now when someone talks the same. All I’m saying is that, people from 16th century would make fun or even punished for saying or explaining the things which are happening now at 21st century, and the same will be if I say like space-crafts, house on moon and other planets, going holiday trip to other galaxies, , which might happen on future centuries.
Maybe in future we can create life, live as long as we wants, altaer space-time and do all the unimaginable things that defies the nature and the law of change. So if we could do those thing we can say we have the power of god*.
(here I again starred god because I don’t mean any disrespect to our Almighty God, its just a metaphor to someone who can do almost anything but not like the GOD)

Creating awareness or Wastage of public money
by Mamta on Sep 24
After taking harsh decisions like hiking diesel prices, slashing the subsidy on LPG cylinders and allowing FDI in multi-brand retail, the UPA government is aggressively promoting Bharat Nirman campaign through television and print media. Suddenly the frequency of advertisements have gone up on all channels. The advertisements are appearing not only on English and Hindi channels but also on regional channels. As per an estimate given by a news channel the government is going to spend Rs. 100 crore on this campaign.
Almost every citizen of the country knows that the latest reforms will put additional burden on Aam admi. The Government took these decisions so that money can be acquired to boost the economy. But aren't these Rs 100 crore belong to the tax-payer of this country? The supporters of this campaign are defending it putting forth the reasons that people should be aware of the benefits of these moves of government. But isn't it unnecessary expenditure on government's part? On the one hand people in the government complains the lack of money crunch in the economy and on the other they are spending whopping sum of Rs. 100 crore on advertising just to prove that their policies are good for people. It seems that all the development and empowerment of the people will be limited to the ad campaigns only.

"the happy tramp".
by Tejas on Sep 13
There was once a tramp
named him, his mother, the lamb
lived on air, rain and sunlight
had milky clouds for dessert to his delight
along with birds and humming woods he merrily sang
and with wild zephyr he did danced
a robe of leaves had he to clad
over the grass by the meadows he laid
blissful in love was he
Mary Jane was the name of she
high was he in his lover’s bosom
in ecstasy was he as their love blossomed
at his bliss did society scorn
with envy and spite did they stone
his friends they mourned where he laid slain
and cried was the wailing rain
raised was a stone over the grass by the meadows where he once laid
engraved were the words in heavenly letters that said
“blissful and merry and blessed was he…… the happy tramp”.

THE HISTORIED FUTURE (my historied future)

Ms DOS, Intel processor, 2 x 8 MB RAM, 2GB HDD, 3.5 inches FDD, black & white CRT monitor, Windows 3.0 Platform.
Sounds like 3 maybe 4 years old smart phone configuration, but its not. It was the configuration of the first computer which i used at the end of the 90s. the computer had the said configurations with a box like CPU, above that we kept the small B\W CRT monitor and the mouse whose roller ball was big as the standard cricket ball and it was upside where I don't need to move the mouse to point to the icons and files, we only had to move the ball proportion to the direction we need and click and to do that i needed the both hands and there was keyboard as heavy as cricket bat and big as well. On that computer i learned Q BASIC (which now I totally have no idea). At spare time i used to play Prince of Persia, pac-man, sky driving etc... they were the first computer games i played on a very small screen of the monitor with mono speakers.
The year was 2003 when i got my first new computer (which i still use as an alternative by upgrading some major components). It was HCL EzeeBEE with Intel Pentium III 1.8 Ghz, 128 MB SDR I RAM, DVD/CD-RW, 3.5 inches Floppy Disk Drive, 20 GB Hard Disk Drive, Windows 98 and 56 kbps internet modem. The whole set was in black before that all the computers and its accessories comes in boring white colour. On my computer i used to connect internet via telephone line named NetOne by BSNL. Whenever i connect the net it used to make some funny sound inside the main CPU's motherboard and the telephone line went busy. On day time i get speed upto 28 kbps but at night time after 11 pm it gets higher like 48 kbps. At that time Yahoo..! Messenger was at BOOM, so i used to chat all night with new people around the globe. At that time i didn't have a telephone line and o do that i have to wait till 1 pm sometime even late as my families living outside the city call at night time after 11 pm as after that the call rate goes down to 50% as well as internet. So it was hard for me to get access to internet. At that time all i wanted and prayed was to get an extension line of our telephone to talk with my friends and to use internet. Forget about getting a new telephone line, broadband, mobile, wi-fi etc.
But today i'm using AMD Phenom IIx4, 3.0 Ghz with quad core, Gigabyte 970A Motherboard, 2x 2GB RAM, 2x500 GB Hard Disk Drive, 2x DVD-RW ROM. I have 2 Smat Phone where i can talk to my friends anytime and can connect to net anyplace and have my own radio up on rooftop for internet which gives speed upto 4mbps. Technically now i have more than i had wanted at that time. At that time all i wanted were a little bit faster computer and an extension line of our home telephone line.
"An extension of the telephone line" thinking of this now i quietly smile to myself think how stupid i was because 'an extension line' was all i wanted but it all skipped as i went away from my room for higher studies but now i'm here remembering all those thing i had wanted in future which are now antiques.

Are you an NE or a Muslim
by Mehnaz on Friday, 17 August 2012
He asked me the question above. That led me to seriously think over. Hence, writing this (yes, again I am writing on Identity crisis! Uffff!! ).
I am a Northeastern and a Muslim too. All these unfortunate days of violence, I never thought in the perspective of being a Muslim nor being a Northeastern but as a Layman who wants peace all over.
Waking up in the morning and seeing the newspapers, facebook, twitter et al full of the ongoing agitation is definitely not my cup of morning tea. It pains to see how my fellow NE folks in panic due to some miscreants attacking them in some states. You never know, when the attacks and killings can happen where I am staying right now. It’s not about being a Muslim or a Northeastern, it’s about being a Human not a wild beast.
He asked, “Muslims are against NE. But what would they say about you?”
“Nice question,” I said.
(Well, I couldn’t believe this was coming from him with whom I have been friends since childhood! Yes, for some 20-odd years.) Anyway, coming back to the conversation, he joked:
“I’ll kill you if anything goes wrong!”
Shocked at his expression, I replied very calmly, “If not by you, I could be killed or attacked by them as I am too from NE. Remember, they aren’t asking names before killing or attacking.”
I further added, “You know what, rioters or terrorists aren’t Muslims or Hindus or Christians. In simple words, they are NOT human but animals who want violence to disturb the long standing peace among the communities. I am as sad as you are right now .”
On my killing part, I quipped, “ If you think you should kill me of I being a Muslim from NE because Muslims are killing my fellow NEsterns in other places, then you can go ahead and do the honour. However, this would only lead to hatred amongst one other, you should keep it mind. Well, peace is the solution, not violence.”
He concluded, "Calm down buddy. I was just kidding!"
On a general note, I would like to appeal to everyone that let’s go towards peace and not violence, let’s not believe in rumours and check on facts, let’s conquer violence with peace, let’s stand in unison. As Mahatma Gandhi said. “An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind.”

Alone
by Tejas on Tuesday, 25 September 2012
People, sometimes or maybe quite often for some, find themselves in a state when they feel they are alone. Some take it as a part of life while some find it hard to get by with it. But no matter how different individuals deal with it, I feel that it is something that we all encounter and something which is very much inevitable. And like all other people I do have my share of what I would call “my moment with myself”.
My time spent in Ahmedabad is what I would describe as my first longest experience of being alone. And by being alone I don’t mean the literal meaning of the word alone only that you find in the dictionary. When I say one is alone, it’s more of the mental and spiritual state of solitude, when one meets one’s true self, and also of the physical state as well, which is the very factor that affects the previous. While I was there i had a lot of time to myself and that gave me ample time to think, to contemplate. Initially, I did feel bored (I still do sometimes) and homesick, missing my family and friends, things that are commonly associated with loneliness. Straight out of school, very young and venturing into the adult world for the first time that was bound to happen. Anyway, I came through it, met some new people, learnt how to fend for myself and to be responsible, but most importantly I learnt how to survive and sustain on my own.
So what keeps me going when I’m alone,..... well good memories and music, yes music and other things as well. When I’m alone, I just put on some good music and then I just reminisce on the good memories. And when I do that I’m all smiles and trust me it does helps a lot to get by. Nowadays, with the advances of technology one is rarely alone, it is very easy to stay connected with your family and friends. Family, friends and society are a very vital ingredient of one’s life, they bring meaning and colour to our existence. And I feel one should be alone for some time in order to be able to miss them so that they understand their importance and cherish their company.
Living in a society makes us feel safe and connected and we also feel great being a part of it. But for some, it’s society alone that drives them the need to isolate themselves from it. For these peoples isolating themselves from society and being alone is an escape from the social conventions of society, hypocrisy, pretensions, duplicity and whatever else they think they can’t accept or relate to. They have this urge to be alone, because, when one is alone they don’t have to pretend, they don’t have to wear the masks and smiles that society compels them to. Simply putting, they don’t have to be the person that society demands them to be but can be who they really are. I’m sure you’ll agree with this if you have seen the motion picture “Into The wild”. Funny but one can feel very alone even when there are people all around them. When one cannot connect and relate to the people around him, it’s easy to feel very alone.
For me, the times when I’m alone, in a way if not all, has been some sort of an experience. I have done some good, some useless and some very crazy things when I am alone. But apart from all this, what I really like about me being alone is that it gives me time to think and the heart that enables me to cherish the company of my family and friends, confidence to find and understand the true me and the space to be who I really am. Because I believe that one is the true self when one is alone, when no one is looking.
“A man can be himself only so long as he is alone”.
Arthur Schopenhauer
(P.S: Having said all of these doesn't mean i prefer being alone all the time, no, not at all).

Tarak Mehta... Completes 1000 Episodes
by Mamta on Nov 06
Today on November 6 we are going to witness 1000th episode of Tarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah. For four years this show has entertained us with fun-filled humor and hilarious dialogues. Initially show didn't appeal much to me but as the time passed it became one of my favourite shows. Despite wide-spread criticism of Daya and Sundar's character the show always manages to tickle the funny bone of the viewers.
During all these years we saw many film stars coming to the show to promote their films. This time as well we will see case of Son of Sardar on the sets of Tarak Mehta K Ooltah Chashmah. So this week is the celebration time for the show.
However, in the show Jetha has landed into another trouble as he performed “saala shanti” havan to get rid of the troubles caused by his brother-in-law Sundar and Daya caught him red-handed. In today’s episode Sundar and Daya both will question Jetha about this. It would be hilarious to watch how Jetha avoids this double trouble.

Roads full of fools!
by Mehnaz on Dec 13
Driving on Indian roads could be one of your most terrible experiences. Being a driver is a curse in India. It hardly matters whether you are in a Mercedes or Maruti 800. When the roads are jam- packed and filled with chicken-headed people, it really doesn't count on which Ac car you are traveling. Here I am not talking only about the Delhi roads or for that matter other metro cities', roads in UP, Bihar, Haryana etc. apart from few states in north-east states, too are horrible.
There is a subject called Civics which is taught as a part of Social Science in schools. I am damn sure these lot have never ever flipped the pages or attended any class of this particular subject for they consider roads as their drawing rooms. They will try to overtake your vehicle from whichever sides they want to especially the bikers as if they are professional racers (which unfortunately they aren't). In a bid to show off their bikes, yes, the ones with superbikes will surely speed up in a zig-zag manner. They think that with this stupendous act (actually, a stupid one), they can easily impress girls. Well, let me take this opportunity to announce on behalf of all the girls' community that we fully detest these savaged riders from the core of our hearts. Yes, we do!
Honking is another habit which we Indians are proud of. And 'Don't Honk' is the popular tag one must have noticed on most of the vehicles especially on trucks and buses. Nevertheless, the ones whose vehicles flaunt this tag are the ones which indulged into high-decibel honking. I don't understand why these people press their vehicles' horns so brutally when they know that the red light is still on. Perhaps, they don't know the symbolic meaning of red light or is it some other reason, I can only wonder.
I am so used to listening this honking that I asked the taxi driver in Shillong (in my recent visit there) that if there is a ban on honking. He laughed out heartily and told me that patience is the key. Yes, actually, he was right. Unlike people in this part of the country (Yes, Shillong is a part of India that lies in northeast region. And it is the capital of Meghalaya), people in Delhi are so impatient and restless, they are always in a hurry to reach their destination as if they are Obamas, Manmohan or some other VIPs. While in Shillong, people even though stranded in a massive traffic jam, they would never honk or indulged in verbal fights. They are so disciplined that sometimes I am forced to ponder that if these lot are really Indian! I saw a glimpse of disciplined drivers in Bangalore also though I must admit traffic there in miserable. But at least, they are unlike Delhi drivers who start mother-sister gaalis if someone slightly hits their vehicle. The same scenario I witnessed in Bangalore but minus gaalis, they dealt the situation very calmly after parking their respective vehicles on the roadside (Actually, I was expecting spats and blows plus gaalis, however, to my utter surprise, it never happened!)
Well, I learned driving when I was in VII standard. My then instructor would always tell me that drivers should not lose their temper though I am highly short-tempered a person. He would tell me that patience is the word you should always remember. However, when you are in a place like Delhi where people lack civic sense, I hardly can be patient. I get irritated when I see someone driving rashly or breaking traffic rules. But those golden words of my instructor would always struck my mind then I would switched on the Ac at its maximum level and put on some soft music and I would drive on. Thinking that I have to go miles before I sleep, I would tell myself that roads are full of fools and I should not turn into one !(Period)

Confused.....!!!!
by Tejas on Wednesday, 12 September 2012
Why is it so…..
that everything that happens should have a reason....
Why can't it be… just for once… be, just a thing that just happens….
something that is just there, no questions asked...
just letting it happen…..
Why is it so…..
that everything should mean something....
to mean something… is that all that really matters...
why is it so hard to accept it for what it is…….
why does it have to make a point every time….
why is it so…..
that everyone is always asking for an explanation....
is that all that they care about now....
and will the explaining do any good…
is trust gone forever…..
and why is it so…..
that everyone is so demanding…..
why is there a need to prove at every point…
why can’t it be just what it is……
and whatever happened to the good old thing called faith …..
why the confusion….
why the doubts…..
why the uneasiness….
makes me wonder….
why is it so?????

Cocktail could have been served better!
by Mehnaz on Jul 23
No, I am not a feminist! But yes, I detest typical Indian men and their mentality. Watching Bollywood’s coolest actor Saif Ali Khan as Gautam in ‘Cocktail’ reminded me again of (Indian) men’s archaic thoughts. Being in the 21st century doesn’t bring any change for these lot and their thinking; which will be coffined forever with no desire of change.
For enjoyment, he will go for the coolest chick in the town but when it comes to presenting his partner in front of his parents, he opts for a shy-homely-pretty-simple girl. One reason for choosing such girl, which is obvious, is-to hide his previous ‘cool’ history to fool the pretty. Other reason, I guess is-he thinks the cool girl will always be fast forward whole of her life and he won’t be to control the wife. Another reason being- his hottest-once-his-crime partner can easily catch his crimes that he wants to hide. The reason list can go on and on, however, last but not the least reason is-her virginity! Yes, it should be intact and should only be meant to lose to him. How pathetic! Time to grow up guys!
Nay, I ain’t guessing and firing blindly! Some of my male counterparts actually think the way the above reasons have been cited. Well, no one can change once attitude until and unless one actually wants to.
Coming back to ‘Cocktail’, as I said it could have been served better and could have changed the thinking of Indian males (if not fully but a bit), only if the ending was innovative. Instead of taking home Meera (the shy girl) played by debutant Diana Penty, Gautam could have married Deepika Padukone’s character Veronica (the cool girl) so that there is some newness in the movie thus influencing the masses particularly men.
Repeating the earlier attempted success stories of dumping fast-forward girl for a homely one only raises the minus points of the movie and makes it dull. There is nothing new in the movie but Deepika’s acting improvement and its peppy party music. Good banner proves lucky for Diana Penty as she got reasonably good exposure so as others to appreciate her acting prowess. Saif was his usual self of being flirty. It’s again redundancy of his character. In some scenes, anyone would relate his character with his earlier acts in the movies like Love Aaj Kal, Hum Tum, Kal Ho Na Ho among others.
All in all, Cocktail is a good pass time movie. But if you are a feminist, make your sure you don’t hit your nearest theatre for the flick!

Ek Tha Tiger, Ek Hai Salman
by Mehnaz on Friday, 31 August 2012
I took out my BB and straightaway started clicking his pics on burst mode when he appeared first on the screen. Such a crazy fan I am of Salman Khan. Though I know it’s impermissible to click pictures inside the theatre, but c’mon, who will resist the 7th most handsome man in the world? (At least, not me!). Such a happy and bright soul I became when I watched ‘Ek Tha Tiger’ the other day. I have never been so interested in the ‘Save Tiger’ campaign, but for this Tiger, I can go all the way (Just kidding!)
Throwing myself to willing-suspension-of-disbelief, I enjoyed watching Tiger in action for hours delightfully. So engrossed watching Salman punching, kicking, killing all his enemies, I literally forgot to watch other characters (How crazy I am, I know!). However, Girish Karnad as the RAW head captured my eyeballs for his acting prowess. His acting kinda reminded me of my theatre class in college (Phew! How boring those classes were-IPTA, Safdar Hashmi, Bengal famine and what not! Thank God, I somehow managed to pass in that subject.)
Coming back to my Tiger…errrr…the topic, I was also spellbound to see otherwise plastic Katrina Kaif flexing her muscles for the film. I have to admit that she has come a long way from straight-face Katrina in ‘Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya’ to I-can-also-act-Katrina in ‘Ek Tha Tiger’. Although performed by her body-double, the action was eye-catching. However, as usual, our own Tiger urf Salman Khan overshadowed all the actors.
However, there are instances in the movie where you are forced to think if Salman is the Bollywood’s answer to Hollywood’s superheroes like Spiderman, Superman and all the men.
With ‘Ek Tha Tiger’ becoming the fastest 100-crore grosser and with four other 100–crore movies in his kitty, the phenomenon called Salman will end no sooner. That’s why – ‘Ek Tha Tiger’ is a hit but Ek Hai Salman who is superhit!
